Barry has nearly 40 years of experience in the technical and business aspects of engineering practice, and is known for his expertise in tall building design. With fluency in structural steel, reinforced and post-tensioned concrete, and hybrid high-rise buildings, Barry has worked on large, complex structures in Canada, the US, China and Germany. Notable tall building projects include The Bow Encana Corp. Headquarters in Calgary, Battery Park City Site 26 Commercial Tower in New York, and many Toronto office towers: First Canadian Place Tower and Exchange Tower, RBC Centre, Maritime Life Tower, and Bay Adelaide Centre West Tower. His leadership in sustainable engineering is demonstrated in recent projects such as the Manitoba Hydro building in Winnipeg, one of the most energy-efficient buildings of its size in North America, consuming 65% less energy than would be expected using standard national building code methods.

Several of Barry’s projects have been recognized with awards, and his substantial contributions to shaping the engineering professional range from developing technical and quality assurance standards, to advising on high-performance concrete in Toronto. He is the author of several articles on high-rise building design.

Licensed to practice in Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and Nova Scotia, Barry is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Association of Consulting Engineers of Canada, the Canadian Institute of Steel Construction Associate Professionals Group, the Council of Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat, the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute, the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties, and the Structural Engineering Institute (charter member). He holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Civil Engineering degree (Honours Graduate), University of Toronto.
